On 25 November 2025, the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LIOS) hosted Francesca Morelli, Senior Project Manager at the CERM/CIRMMP Infrastructure (Italy), for a focused visit and seminar on effective coordination of European research projects. The event was organised by MR LATVIA and aimed to strengthen collaboration between LIOS and leading European NMR infrastructures.
During her visit, Francesca delivered a seminar titled “Real-world coordination stories and lessons learned,” where she shared practical insights gained from coordinating large, multi-partner initiatives. She outlined the key responsibilities of a project coordinator, highlighting the importance of clear leadership, structured communication, and maintaining a consistent project vision.
A significant part of the seminar focused on building strong consortia and developing competitive proposals, including partner selection, effective work package design, and alignment with call objectives. Francesca also presented case studies from two major initiatives — Remote NMR and FAIRYTALE — offering concrete examples of how coordination challenges are approached in practice. Her reflections provided valuable guidance for both emerging and experienced project teams at LIOS.
The event opened with welcome remarks from the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LIOS) and featured opportunities for discussion and networking. Participants appreciated the practical, straightforward advice and the opportunity to learn from real coordination experiences rather than abstract guidelines.
Beyond the seminar itself, the visit provided a platform to explore future collaboration opportunities between LIOS and CIRMMP, including joint participation in upcoming Horizon Europe calls, harmonisation of remote-access approaches, and continued exchange of project management expertise.
LIOS and MR LATVIA thank Francesca Morelli for her contribution and look forward to further strengthening cooperation with CIRMMP as part of broader efforts to enhance NMR research capacity and international collaboration.
