A Celebration of Science and Collaboration

Florence welcomed the MR LATVIA team to the ITACA SB School, where we proudly hosted our Satellite Event: “Building connections through the exchange of ideas and practices in NMR” The day was filled with inspiring talks, dynamic discussions, and exciting opportunities for young researchers to shine.

Highlights from the Event

Our Satellite Event brought together leading scientists and enthusiastic PhD students, creating a vibrant atmosphere of knowledge-sharing: Alons Lends, Linda Cerofolini, Marco Schiavina, also PhD student presenters:Diana Niño-Avellaneda, Kristīne Senkāne, Jana Petkus, Laura Ruduša.

Key discussions focused on innovative uses of heteronuclei, the development of novel probes, and collaborative approaches to biomolecular NMR. Alons Lends also highlighted the cutting-edge NMR opportunities at LIOS, inspiring new ideas for joint projects and international partnerships.

Voices from Our PhD Students

We asked some of our PhD students to share their impressions from this unforgettable experience:

Jana Petkus: “At the ITACA SB school we had the opportunity to explore the wide range of NMR spectroscopy applications for analyzing challenging samples, as well as to gain practical experience in setting and evaluating experimental parameters. The experience gained will be very useful for working with various biomolecular samples. During the school we also met several researchers, which will help facilitate idea exchanges and problem-solving in the future.”

Diana Niño-Avellaneda: “It was truly inspiring to meet researchers such as Roberta, Linda, and Marco, and to learn from all the lecturers. The sessions provided a solid overview of the direct detection of heteronuclei (¹³C, ¹⁵N, ¹⁹F, and ³¹P), covering a wide range of applications in biomolecular characterization and discussing both the advantages and challenges of these techniques. The event offered a perfect blend between theory and practice, highlighted exciting NMR opportunities, and opened valuable perspectives for future research and collaboration. I return with new knowledge, fresh ideas for our research projects, and the motivation to keep learning.”

Why This Matters

Events like our Florence Satellite are at the heart of MR LATVIA’s mission: building opportunities for young scientists to present their work, receive valuable feedback, and connect with leading experts. These experiences empower students to transform early-stage research into impactful collaborations, co-authorships, and future scientific leadership.

Looking Ahead

We return from Florence with new knowledge, fresh perspectives, and renewed motivation to continue shaping the future of NMR research. MR LATVIA remains committed to supporting international collaboration, fostering young talent, and driving innovation in biomolecular spectroscopy.
